Obituary

The ban is the most serious threat to farriery since the advent of mechanized farming and will undoubtedly cause substantial damage to our industry and members.

Just as a previous Government decimated the mining industry and its respective supply industries, so this Government has caused incalculable damage to the farming industry and its respective supply industries, together with rural economies and the rural populace, and it is of great sadness that the legislation has been passed without a full understanding of the mechanisms involved by those who dictate the legislation.

I am sadly aware that in the coming weeks and months very many horses will be butchered as a result of their redundancy just as the railway horses and vanners were slaughtered with the advent of motorized goods delivery vehicles.
