AGM and Centenary Celebrations
The
Centenary AGM of the Association took place at the Forge on Friday 14th
May. The AGM was started by Edward Martin when he unveiled a plaque celebrating
the Associations 100th year. The business of the AGM went smoothly and
Huw Dyer and Les Armstrong were both re-elected on to the Executive Committee
for a further two years, Les Armstrong was also re-elected as President
of the Association for a further year.
In the evening delegates and guests participated in a quiz organised by
Mick O’Reardon. The winners of the quiz was Huw Dyers team.
The
Centenary Celebrations day was opened by Richard Hurcomb. During the day
there were lectures from Sue Kempson on Structure of the horn and how
bacteria can break down the horn (with specific reference to over supplementation
of horses feed), Ian Hughes on Pitfalls of horseshoeing and a presentation
from John Labouchere. John Labouchere guided the audience through a slide
show presentation of his spellbinding journey across the Andes on his
three horses. All who saw the talk were left amazed at this adventure
of a lifetime.
Throughout the day Uri Hofi was entreating and educating people with his
amazing blacksmithing skills. For part of the day he demonstrated air-hammer
forging techniques and ergonomic hand hammer forging. All the people that
got a chance to see him at work were amazed and impressed with the work
he did.
The evening gala banquet was held at the Moat House Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Everyone attending the banquet received a free Centenary memento pen donated
by the Presidents wife Jill Armstrong. Unfortunately the guest after dinner
speaker was unable to attend, however this did not stop prevent people
who attend from having an extremely enjoyable evening. Certificates of
recognition were awarded to people that have helped the Association over
the years, below is a picture of the people that attended the banquet
and received a certificate. At midnight all people at the banquet joined
the President on the dance floor for the cutting of a special centenary
cake. The celebrations then continued into the early hours of the morning.

If you misted the Centenary AGM and celebrations
make sure you do not miss next years.
